Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam on Sunday said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was not a real Freedom Fighter as he took part in the War of Liberation as an agent of Pakistan.
“No real Freedom Fighter can join hand in hand with the enemies of the nation within just three and a half years of the War of Liberation. Zia employed the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in different foreign missions of Bangladesh. He helped killers to flee the country and issued indemnity act to halt the trials of the killers of Bangabandhu,” he said.
The minister came up with the observations while addressing a discussion arranged marking the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Kolatia Degree College in Keraniganj.
Presided over by college Principal Liakat Ali, the discussion was addressed, among others, by convener of Keraniganj upazilla Awami League and upazila chairman Shahin Ahmed, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahe Elid Mainul Amin, Juba League leader Eusuf Ali Chowdhury Selim and Kalatia union parishad chairman Md Taher Ali, among others.
The minister in his speech added that all the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu and most of his family members will be repatriated and their sentences will be executed.
“They will not be able to avoid the justice. Genocides of 1971, killings of 1975, jail killings and grenade attack of August 21, 2005 are related with one another. The perpetrators of these crimes are very much active in home and abroad and their main target now is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” Qamrul added.
The minister urged all to remain alert to obstruct the conspiracies against the prime minister and the country.
