Speakers at a function here stressed the need for making the youths more active and responsive to ensure transparency, accountability and good governance in local government institutions.
They viewed there is no alternative to enhance peoples participation to the local government system to make those public-friendly.
The observation came in the opening session of a four-day training course for youths styled “Transparency, Accountability, Inclusiveness and Citizenship” at BMDA Training Center in Mohanpur Upazila in the district yesterday afternoon.
The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) organized the training in association with ‘Promoting Democratic Inclusion and Governance through Youths (PRODIGY)’ project and British Council.
A total of 36 youths are taking part in the training.
Upazila Chairman Professor Abdus Samad, Union Parishad Chairman Kazim Uddin, THPB Regional Coordinator Shashanka Boron Roy and Field Coordinator (Monitoring and Operations) of PRODIGY Subrata Kumar Paul addressed it.
The programme aims at building capacity of young people for ensuring good governance in local government institutions.
The training includes several individual and group presentations on social issues through which participants will demonstrate their creativities and communication skills.
Upazila Chairman Samad said youths both boys and girls need training on various issues for grooming up their latent knowledge.
