A Barishal court on Sunday afternoon sentenced accused Sujon Shikdar, 35, son of late Dhalu Shikdar of Jalit Char village under Mehendiganj upazila of the district to life term imprisonment for violating a teenage girl.
The court also fined the sentenced accused Tk. 1 lakh or to serve more one year imprisonment in default.
Abu Shamim Azad, judge of “Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman (Women and Children Repression Prevention) Tribunal” Barishal handed down this verdict in presence of sentenced accused after examining eight witnesses and other evidences he found guilty.
Advocate Fayezul Huq Foyez, special prosecutor of the tribunal, said Sujon often teased the girl aged 14 and on way to returning home from school on September 29, 2014, accused Sujon abducting her brought to nearby cultivated jute field of Ghuniar Char and violated her.
After the family informed about the matter, father of the victim lodged a rape case with Mehendiganj police station on October 21 of the same year.
Sub Inspector Kamal Hossain, investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheet against the accused Sujon Shikdar with 30 working days of lodging the case.
