Customs intelligence officials recovered 43 kg gold, worth Tk 21.50 crore, from the freight unit of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here early Wednesday. The 43 gold bars, each weighing one kg, were kept hidden in a garment accessories parcel sent from Singapore in a Singapore Airlines flight that landed at the airport around 9:00 pm on Tuesday, said Mainul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID). He said the gold consignment was sent undercover of garments accessories for a garment manufacturer company situated in Chittagong EPZ. The gold was recovered around 4:00 am from the airport freight unit after an overnight search. “An investigation is on to find out the smugglers,” Mainul added. Source : UNB, Dhaka.
