UNB, Dhaka :
A writ petition seeking the removal of 10 officials, including the Shipping Secretary and the BIWTA chairman, for their failure to rescue three ill-fated launches, including Pinak-6 sunk recently in the Padma River, was filed on Tuesday.
Ashish Kumar Dey, convener of Shipping, Roads and Railway Committee and another person, filed the writ petition with the relevant section of the High Court in the form of public interest litigation (PIL).
The eight other officials whose removal have been
sought include the Director General of Department of Shipping (DoS), its Engineer and Inspector serving at Mawa zone , BIWTC’s Shipping Security and Traffic division Director, and Director of Port division, Mawa river port officer and its traffic inspector.
The admissibility hearing on the writ petition is likely to be heard by a vacation division bench of the High Court on Wednesday, counsel for the petitioners said.
