World Health Day today

The World Health Day will be observed today in the country as elsewhere in the globe with the theme of the day ‘Building a fairer, healthier world’.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday issued separate messages on the eve of the Day.
In his message, the President said healthy manpower is instrumental for overall development of the country and the government has been working unstintingly to extend proper
 healthcare including prevention of diseases and development of nutrition sector.
“At present, in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic , the government is formulating and implementing various pragmatic plans to ensure quality healthcare for all”, the head of the state said.
He said that a large number of doctors and nurses have been recruited to ensure uninterrupted treatment and health services to the COVID -19 patients.
Arrangements have also been made to provide vaccines for COVID-19, he added.
He urged all including the government as well as various non-governmental organizations and institutions to come forward to facilitate the treatment to the Coronavirus infected patients more accessible .
He advised all to follow health safety guidelines and other rules set by the government in all cases and to ensure use of necessary personal protective equipment including masks.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, reiterated her government’s commitment to safeguard the public health of the people.
The premier said that in the tenure of present Awami League (AL)-led government, the development index of Bangladesh’s health sector is now at an enviable level as the government is implementing various programmes to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and universal health protection.
“Various types of hospitals are being set up all over the country as per the demand of the people. Different medical colleges and medical universities have been established. Free medical services and medicines are being provided to the community clinics for the rural, marginalized and disadvantageous people” Hasina said .
She said infant and maternal mortality rates are declining in significant rate. The average life expectancy of the people of the country now stands at 72.6 years,” she added.
Mentioning that many countries around the world have already launched a nationwide vaccination programme to combat COVID-19, she said so far one crore two lakh doses of vaccines have been brought to the country, adding “Bangladesh is among the top 20 countries in the world in providing COVID-19 vaccine.”
She said that Bangladesh ranks top in South Asia and 20th in the world according to the Bloomberg’s COVID Resilience Ranking score for successfully coping with the corona epidemic by taking timely and appropriate actions, reviving the economy and maintaining the standard of living.
The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) personally praised various initiatives taken up by Bangladesh to address Covid- 19 situation in Bangladesh, she continued.
Both the President and the Prime Minister wished success of the Day.
