BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has urged all to struggle for restoring the lost democracy in the country in light of the spirit of the holy Ashura.
Accusing the government of snatching people’s rights, she has also asked the countrymen to forge a strong resistance against the misrule and misdeeds of the government.
The BNP chief, who is now staying in London, appealed it to the people in a message on Friday issued on the occasion of the Holy Ashura. The day relates to the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his unarmed companions, mostly members of the
House of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) and it will be observed today (Saturday) with due religious solemnity.
Khaleda Zia in her message paid homage to Imam Hussain (RA), Prophet’s family members and other martyrs of the Karbala. She prayed for salvation of the departed souls of the Karbala martyrs.
“We must restore our lost democracy upholding the spirit of the sacrifice of the Muharram 10 to fight against oppression and to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty,” Khaleda Zia said.
Describing Muharram 10 as a very significant day for the Muslim Ummah, she said that the day teaches all to stand against all the misdeeds, as Imam Hussain (RA) did at the Karbala on that historic day.
Khaleda Zia said, “The extremely heartrending incident of Karbala inspires the people to take oath for new life. Imam Hussain’s sacrifice for truth and justice is an example for the people of the world, including Bangladesh, to follow.”
She also said, “Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) had asked all to resist unjust. As his followers, it is our duty to put up a strong resistance against an anti-people regime, its misdeeds and misrule. Bangladesh is now passing through critical juncture.
BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also issued a separate message on the occasion of the Muharram 10. In his message, he also remembered the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) and others.
