‘Women deprived of proper healthcare for social barriers’

State Minister for Information Tarana Halim on Thursday said women across the country are deprived of proper healthcare services due to negligence, social barriers and lack of awareness.
The minister said: “We have approximately 14,000 community clinics.”
“Kidney ailment is deeply linked to diabetics and high blood pressure. We can save our lives from the disease through taking early treatment from those clinics”, she said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion at IDEB Bhaban at Kakrail in the city marking the World Kidney Day.
Bangladesh Renal Association (BRA), Kidney Foundation and Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) jointly organised the event.

Include, Value, Empower’ promotes affordable and equitable access to health education, healthcare and prevention of kidney diseases for all women and girls around the world.
Citing the statistics of KAMPS, Tarana said the rate of kidney disease among female is 14 percent while the ratio is 12 percent among male.
She stressed the need for launching awareness campaign about the diseases to check the spread of the disease.
“Without the development of women, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cannot be achieved” she said, adding that the present government has a plan to rehabilitate elderly as well as rural women of lower-income group.
Kidney Foundation Chairman Prof Dr Harun or Rashid, Bangladesh Renal Association(BRA) Secretary General Dr Md Nazrul Islam, BRA President Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, KAMPS president MA SAMAD, and Health Directorate Additional Director General Prof Nasima Sultana, among others, addressed the discussion.
Describing kidney as an important organ of human body, other speakers said the number of slow kidney failure patients is increasing due to nephritis, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Kidney diseases are preventable, Prof Harun or Rashid said, adding “If we maintain healthy lifestyle along with proper diet, we can prevent kidney ailment.”
