State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira said her ministry is providing food aid to 10.40 lakh distressed and poor women through VGD programme. This was told by the state minister on Sunday at an urgent meeting of her ministry at the Secretariat, said a press release.
She said the government is providing lactating mother allowance to 2.75 lakh poor mothers in urban areas and 7.70 lakh in rural areas. Besides, different programmes are being run by the ministry for distressed women and children of the society, the state minister said. Indira said the programmes of social safety net will have to be continued in the present situation of Coronavirus.
She said the government is providing different aids to around one crore people of the country through old age allowance, widow allowance and allowance for women abandoned by husbands.
The meeting also decided to give one day basic salary of all officials and employees of the ministry and other departments under it to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund due to Coronavirus situation. Secretary of the ministry RowshanAkther and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
