Staff Reporter :In an interview published in Bengali daily Bangladesh Pratidin, Thursday, Barrister Mainul Hosein highlighted the importance of democratic rule for good governance, peaceful change of power and rule of law. He said it is futile to expect rule of law when the government itself has no accountability, as it is not being an elected government. Whatever rule of law still exists, it is because of whatever role the Supreme Court is able to play. Barrister Hosein has expressed deep anxiety that the country is moving towards chaos in a leaderless way. He finds it frustrating that there is no leader who enjoys people’s trust and confidence at the national level. He was very critical of what he called ‘police-case politics’ which is contributing to furthering indiscipline among the police. Our political leaders are simply failing to appreciate or realise that there will be no Awami League and no BNP without democracy.
