President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hassan Papon said, ” We are not afraid of any team. But I am worried about the performance of our team.”
Papon went to the UAE with Bangladesh T20 Cricket team. Besides, a good number of Directors of the BCB are accompanied with him. Bangladesh T20 Cricket team are taking part in the Asia Cup Cricket 2022. The Asia Cup is now being held at the UAE. Papon watched the opening match of the Asia Cup on Saturday. Afghanistan and hosts Sri Lanka took part in the inaugural match of the Asia Cup. Afghanistan made an auspicious start after crushing Sri Lanka by eight wickets.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group-B, while India, Pakistan and Hong Kong are in Group-A. Top two teams from each group will play in the ‘ Super Four’. Top two teams from ‘Super Four’ will play in the final.
After watching the aggressive cricket of Afghanistan Cricket team, Nazmul Hassan Papon became anxious. After the match, Papon went to the hotel where members of Bangladesh Cricket team are staying. Papon spoke to the journalists, ” I have visited the hotel to talk to them. Before that I watched the match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. After watching Afghanistan’s performance, I am worried about our team.”
He said, ” We never underestimate Afghanistan. They are very strong in T20 format. But I am happy that it seems to me all our players are confident and spirited. We don’t fear any team and that’s the spirit. We want to win our first match. If we win the first match, we shall be in a good position.”
The BCB boss said, ” All the participating teams of this tournament are very good, according to their strength.” Tomorrow Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in their first match. The BCB boss believes if Bangladesh win the tomorrow’s match, it will be possible for Bangladesh to win rest of the matches.
The President of the BCB said, ” All the teams are strong. Every match is important for us. As our first match against Afghanistan, we have focused the match. If we win that match, we shall win over Sri Lanka. And also give a good fight against the rest of the participating teams.”
Meanwhile, The BCB announced on Saturday night that Afif Hossain will act as the deputy of Shakib Al Hasan during this tournament. If wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan can take part in this competition, he will be the Vice-Captain of Bangladesh T20 Cricket team. But Nurul Hasan has been ruled out due to injury. Afif has got the job for only this tournament.
