Defamation case: Warrant against Tarique, 2 others

 A Narayanganj court yesterday issued warrants against BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and two other leaders in a defamation case.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Milton Hosen of Narayanganj court issued the arrest warrants for Tarique Rahman, United Kingdom BNP unit President Sayesta Chowdhury Kuddus its General Secretary Kayser M Ahmed.
Earlier at noon, Akram Hosain Badal, a member of central Awami League’s religious affairs sub-committee, filed the defamation case, Abdul Hai, inspector of the court police told newsmen. The defamation case was filed Under Sections 500 and 501of the Penal Code against the three accused.
District Awami League’s Liberation War Affairs Secretary advocate Nurul Huda, senior lawyer Ashraful Alam and other lawyers moved the petition on behalf of the complainant.
Nurul Huda said, “Tarique Rahman said, at a ceremony in London on August 19, the way Bangabandhu became Prime Minister in 1972 is illegal. He is not the father of the nation. He is only Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Sheikh Hasina’s government is illegal and Bangabandhu did not want independence of this country”.
According to the case, Tarique, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, recently at a programme in London made “defamatory” comments about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the constitution of the country.
Asaduzzaman, Inspector of Narayanganj court police told newsmen, the court fixed December 10 for next hearing in the case.
