Victim rescued, 4 abductors held in Rangpur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued an abducted vision-impaired man and arrested four kidnappers from Modern Mour area in the metropolis on Thursday.
The arrested are Md. Mahabub, 24, of Netrokona district and Md. Rubel, 20, Md. Monayem, 18, and Md. Munna, 18, of Rangpur district.
“On a tip-off, an operational team of the RAB-13 conducted a raid there, rescued the victim and arrested the four kidnappers from the spot,” said a press release issued today by Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-13 Flight Lieutenant Mahmud Bashir Ahmed.
Earlier, brother of victim Md. Farhad Mian, 35, of Netrokona district lodged a complaint with RAB-13 informing that Farhad is a vision-impaired contractor.
Farhad and arrested Mahabub are hailing from the same area who had been living and working together.
On April 3 last, victim Farhad with Mahabub went to Panchagarh with Taka 50,000 in cash from Dirai area in Sunamganj district to hire a paddy thresher machine.
Both Farhad and Mahabub left Panchagarh on April 4 on their way back home and took their Iftar after 6 pm at Modern Mour area under Tazhat police Station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) in the city.
After the Tarabih prayers, some abductors talked to the father of kidnapped Farhad using his mobile phone set and demanded Taka six lakh as ransom for his release.
The abductors also threatened to kill Fahad if the ransom was not paid. “Finding no other alternative, Farhad’s brother, at one stage, informed the matter over a mobile phone call to RAB-13 when the elite force started a shadow investigation into the incident to nab the culprits,” the releasesaid.
Later, the elite force rescued the abducted victim and arrested the four kidnappers from Rangpur metropolis.
During primary interrogation, the arrested admitted that they abducted the victim Farhad taking advantage of his blindness as per a previous plan to realize ransom from his family members.
“The elite force handed over the arrested kidnappers to Tazhat Police Station of RpMP for taking further legal actions,” the release added.
