Posts and Telecommunication State Minister Tarana Halim has said the mobile phone operators will inform the users about the exact number of SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards registered with their NID on July 7.
“The mobile operators will inform subscribers about the total number of SIM cards registered with a single NID,” she said this while addressing a press conference at her ministry on Thursday.
Posts and Telecommunication Secretary Fayzur Rahman Chowdhury, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shahjahan Mahmud, among others, were present in the press conference.
According to a government decision, mobile operators are going to inform subscribers about the number of SIM cards registered against an NID.
At the end of the campaign any subscriber, who is doubtful about the number shown registered with his/her NID, may inform the operator about actual information on it.
The introduction of the biometric SIM registration system has enabled law enforcement agencies to catch forgery syndicate in the country, Tarana said.
Meanwhile, three persons have been arrested in Mymensingh with a large number of SIM cards, national IDs and equipments used for international telephone call terminations.
Police on Wednesday arrested 22 people, including distributors and officials of international mobile operator Airtel, from different parts of the city for their alleged involvement in selling falsely registered SIM cards.
