Use of power saving, climate–friendly technology stressed

A ‘regional dissemination workshop on implementation of Montreal Protocol in Bangladesh’ today stressed the need for promoting the use of energy saving and climate friendly technologies to protect the ozone layer.
Organized by the Department of Environment (DoE) of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, the workshop was held under hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) Phase out Management Plan: UNEP Component Project.
Chaired by acting deputy commissioner of Khulna Habibur Rahman, Divisional Commissioner of Khulna Md Abdus samad addressed the function as the chief guest.
Additional Director General of Department of Environment Quazi Sarwar Imtiaz Hashmi, Director of DoE Md. Zafar Siddique, senior officer of ozone cell Dr. Satyendra Kumar and Research officer Shaikh Obaidullah Al Mahmud, among others, addressed while Director of DoE in Khulna Division Dr. Mallick Anwar Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
Government officials, teachers, journalists, representatives of different NGOs, civil society members attended the workshop.
The speakers said, the World Commission on environment needs to continue to monitor the state of the ozone layer.
The Montreal Protocol is one of the most successful and effective environmental treaties ever negotiated and implemented.
