Awami League (AL) candidates won five posts while Jatiya Party (JaPa) candidate one post of upazila chairmen in the upazila elections held in six upazila parishads in the district on Monday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Returning Officer Syed Enamul Kabir announced unofficial poll results of Pirganj, Badarganj, Taraganj and Pirgachha upazila parishads at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room here last night.
AL candidates Alhaj Ruhul Amin and Anwarul Islam Maya were elected for chairmen posts of Gangachara and Kawnia upazila parishads unopposed and elections were held for other posts in these two upazilas yesterday.
According to unofficially announced results, AL candidate Fazle Rabbi Sweet won chairman post of Badarganj upazila parisahd bagging 58,301 votes with symbol ‘Boat’.
His nearest rival independent candidate (expelled from BNP) Saidul Islam got 6,800 votes with symbol ‘Motorcycle’.
AL candidate Anisur Rahman Litan won chairman post of Taraganj upazila parisahd bagging 42,372 votes with symbol ‘Boat’.
His nearest rival rebel JaPa candidate Shahinur Islam Marshal got 18,922 votes with symbol ‘Motorcycle’.
AL candidate Noor Mohammad Mandal won Pirganj upazila chairman post bagging 73,019 votes with symbol ‘Boat’.
His nearest rival rebel AL candidate Mokarram Hossain Chowdhury Jahangir got 27,909 voted with symbol ‘Horse’.
JaPa candidate Abu Naser Md. Mahbubar Rahman won chairman post of Pirgachha upazila parisahd bagging 55,860 votes with symbol ‘Plough’.
His nearest rival AL candidate Abdullah Al Mahmud Milan got 40,957 votes with symbol ‘Boat’. Talking to BSS today, the Returning Officer expressed satisfaction over successful holding of elections in six upazila parishads here yesterday and thanked all concerned for their full cooperation. “The elections of Sadar and Mithapukur upazila parishads will be held on March 24 next to complete upazila parishad polls in all eight upazilas of the district,” he added.

AL candidate, present upazila chairman-Asraf Uddin Badal, Woman Vice-chairman- Reshma Akter and Vice-chairman Ataur have been elected uncontested at Gafargaon Upazila Parishad election. Former Upazila Jubo League President Principal Ataur Rahman was elected as vice-chairman for first time.
The three candidates have been declared as Upazila chairman, vice-chairman and women vice-chairman unofficially.
Asraf Uddin Badal, NPP candidate-Nur Uddin for upazila chairman, principal Ataur Rahman, S.M.Shafik Uddin Shafiqur Rahman and Rasel Box for Vice-chairman submitted their nomination papers but candidates unofficially withdrawn their candidatures.
At least 68 candidates have received allocated symbols from the Returning Officer in the conference room of Collectorate Building on Saturday afternoon for the third phase of election to be held on March 24.
Candidates and their followers are running their election campaign through procession, view-exchange meeting, leaflet distribution and other activities at their respective upazilas.
District Election Officer Mesbah Uddin said though the campaign began in full swing, no news of violating the code of conduct has been found anywhere.Ô
In Narsingdi Sadar upazila, the candidate for chairman post are: Md Safor Ali Bhuiyan (Al) Boat, Md Anowar Hossain (Independent) Pineapple and Mujibor Rahman (Islam Oykajote) Minar.
Four candidates are contesting for male vice-chairman and three for reserved female vice-chairman posts in the upazila.
In Shibpur upazila, the candidate for chairman post are: Harun Or Rashid Khan(Al) Boat, Ariful Islam Mridha (Independent Mannan Bhuiyan Parishad)Ink Pot.
Seven candidates are contesting for male vice-chairman and six for reserved female vice-chairman posts in the upazila.
In Monohordi upazila, the candidate for chairman post are: Saiful Islam Khan Biru (Al) Boat, Habibur Rahman Rongu (Independent) Telephone, Rafuqil Islam (Islam Oykajote) Minar, Md. Nazmul Haque (Independent)Pineapple,
Md Tawhid Sarkaruncontest elected in post vice charmain. Two for reserved female vice-chairman posts in the upazila.
In Belabo upazila, the candidate for chairman post are: Md Samsher Jaman Bhuiyan (Al) Boat, Md Aman Ullah (Independent)Pineapple, Rana Chowdhury (Independent)Horse.
Six candidates are contesting for male vice-chairman and Six for reserved female vice-chairman posts in the upazila.
In Raipura upazila, the candidate for chairman post are: Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury (Al) Boat, Md Abdus Sadek (Independent)Pineapple, Sadek Miah (Islam Oykajote) Minar, Sayed Jahangir Alam (Jaker Party Rose Flower.
Four candidates are contesting for male vice-chairman and Four for reserved female vice-chairman posts in the upazila.
And Palash upazila Sayed Jabed Hossain (Al) again chairman ,Cari Ullah Sarkar vice chairman and Selina Akther female vice chairman elected without contest.
