UP polls held thru’ ballot stuffing in Jessore

Elections of eleven union councils under Jhikargachha Upazila in Jessore were held through stuffing of ballot papers, confining BNP nominated candidate and creating panic among voters, visiting polling stations it was observed.
Fazlur Rahman, rebel Awami League candidate for the post of chairman at Magura union council alleged that ballots were stuffed by activists of the symbol boat at Kayemkola Primary School and Ghoda Government Primary School polling stations.
Abu Taleb, BNP nominated chairman candidate under the same union council also raised the same allegation. He, however, said he and his men could not be able to go Phulbari Government Primary School polling station due to panic created by rebel AL candidate Fazlur Rahman. ‘I’m being confined inside my residence,’ he added.
Admitting the allegation, Tapon Kumar Banarjee, presiding officer, Phulbari Government Primary School polling station told that the BNP candidate raised such complaint to me over cell phone. ‘But I had nothing to do because it was outside my polling station’, he added.
Mortoza Elahi Tipu, general secretary, Jhikargachha upazila unit BNP told that AL men ousted polling agents of BNP from almost all the polling stations under the upazila. ‘They did it in support of the symbol boat or rebel Awami League candidate’, he added.
BNP men were showed panic early night, he further said.
