Citizens of ward Nos 28, 28 and 30 at western part of Barisal City Corporation on Monday morning formed human chain and handed over memorandum to administration demanding undisrupted electricity supply.
The rally was organised by ‘Kashipur Elakar Bidyut Sarbaraho Samosya Nirosan Committee’ (committee for solving the electricity supply problem of Kashipur area) and addressed among others by local ward councilors, elites of the area.The speakers alleged that earlier on May 10 they handed over a memorandum on the same demand to the executive engineer of West Zone Power Distribution Company, but the situation yet not improved. The power supply in the total area was disrupted on May 15 afternoon after a nor-wester lashes the region. Since then the area remained out of electricity supply for four days and partially resumed on Sunday evening with often disruptions, they alleged.
Even at the normal times the power supply in these areas not only disrupts for hours and many times in a day, but also low or over voltages caused damaging the equipments using electricity, alleged Aftab Hossain, president of motor workers union, city Sramik League and former UP chairman of the area.
The participants of the programme cautioned to start more hand movement, if the demand would be ignored, cautioned the agitated local people. After the human chain and agitation rally, the participants handed over a memorandum to the divisional commissioner. A K M Tariqul Islam, executive engineer division-2 of West Zone Power Distribution Company, acknowledging the problem said, they trying their best to develop the situation.
However, crossing load distribution limit by charging huge number of battery operated three wheelers causing faults in load distribution transformers , falling branch of trees on distribution lines causes often disruption of the power supply, the WZPDCO official explained.
