University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan on Tuesday urged the Australian Government for providing scholarship to the university teachers of Bangladesh specially to the young scholars of the country for enhancing their professional skills.
He also said more academic and research collaboration among the higher educational institutions of Bangladesh and Australia are needed for expanding and enhancing the higher education in both countries, a press release said.
Professor Mannan made this call while a-three member Australian delegation led by Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for South Asia, Austrade, Ms Leonie Muldoon called on him at his office in the city.
Other members of the delegation were Business Development Manager of Australian Trade Commission, Australian High Commission in Dhaka, Mr. Mostafizur Rahman and Country Manager of Australian Trade Commission, Australian High Commission in Dhaka, Mr. Minhaz Chowdhury.
The delegation also expressed interest in establishing academic and research collaboration with Bangladeshi universities in a number of areas for enhancing the quality education, research and skills of the teaching professionals, the release added.
Earlier, UGC Chairman briefed the delegation about the activities and functions of the UGC and different components of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP).
UGC Members Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, and Secretary of the UGC Dr. Md. Khaled were present in the meeting, among others, it said.
