College of Agricultural Science (CAS) of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has celebrated National Fisheries Week 2015 (Motsho Pokkho) recently with the slogan: In ocean, river, all water, fish culture creates gold.
The week is celebrated by the CAS of IUBAT to create greater awareness among the teachers and students of the university as well as Bangladesh community about the country’s fish resources which is a source of protein and income generation for many people.
The chief guest Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor and Founder of IUBAT pointed to the need for scientific research and educational movement for development of fishery in Bangladesh and informed that the IUBAT has a plan to introduce specialized education in fishery under the CAS to promote indigenous knowledge, research and development of fishery sector.
The keynote speaker Prof Dr Shohidullah Miah, Director, CAS made an elaborated presentation on the significance and importance of fishery in economic development and poverty alleviation as well as eradicating malnutrition. CAS Chair Prof Dr M A Hannan and other professors i.e. Prof Dr Saidur Rahman, Prof Dr Mujibur Rahman Khan and Dr Nusrat Jahan spoke on the occasion.
Following the discussion session, the CAS Community joined the Chief Guest in releasing 100,000 fingerlings of diverse fish category in the Fishery Research Pond of the university.
