One fisherman was beaten to death by rivals over spreading fishing net on Kalabador River on Monday noon.
The dead victim was identified as Khokon Mia, 22, son of Bachchu Mia from Sreepur under Mehendiganj upazila of the district.
Akhtaruzzaman, Officer- in -Charge of Mehendiganj police station, said Altaf Hossain, in charge of the Sreepur police post, rushed to the spot detained Alam Rari and Salam Rari in this connection.
Abul Kalam, ward master of Barisal Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital, quoting relatives of the victim said, while Khokon was busy in spreading net on the river, his rivals attacking him injured severely by beating mercilessly on Monday noon.
Khokon was rushed to Barisal SBMCH immediately, but declared as dead by the attending physician after reaching at the hospital at about 3:00 PM.
Dead body sent to morgue for autopsy and till this report no case was lodged, hospital and police sources said.
