Two separate cases have been filed in connection with the killing of Naniarchar Upazila Chairman advocate Shaktiman Chakma and four other people in separate attacks on May 3,4.
Rupam Chakma, an assistant of Shaktiman Chakma, who also received injuries in the attack on May 3, filed a murder case mentioning names of 46 people with Naniarchar police station seven days after the incident on Wednesday, said Md Alamgir Kabir, superintendent of Rangmati Police. Tapan Jyoti Chakma, chief of Gonotrantik UPDF, filed another case mentioning names of 72 people with the police station in connection with the attack on May 4 which left four indigenous people, including Tapan, dead.
Meanwhile, police in special drive arrested Provat Kumar Chakma, president of Baghaichari upazila Parbatya Chattogram Janasonghati Samity and Sajek UP chairman Nelson Chakma, said Amin Hossain, officer-in-charge of Baghaichari Police Station. On May 4, five people were killed and eight others injured in a gun attack on a motorcade of the followers of slain Naniarchar upazila parishad chairman Shaktiman Chakma at Betchhari in Naniarchar upazila. They came under the attack while going to attend the funeral programme of the slain upazila parishad chairman at his Kukurmara family crematory in the upazila from Khagrachhari.
Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, also a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in front of the upazila parishad complex on May 3.
