The trees of Saidpur Lions School and College, the elite educational institution of Saidpur, Nilphamari, have been cut and sold at night.
The Principal of the Institution cut down eight big trees and sold it at only 50 thousand taka, it is alleged .
The trees of the educational institution mainly were railway property as the Institution is on the railway land. If the tree were required to sell or cut, it will be done jointly with the railway authorities through tender. However, various sources complained that the trees were cut in the dark of night for selling trees without any such tender. In relation to cutting these trees, the railway authorities, IW and the College authorities with the principal were jointly consented and violated the rules and regulations, the villagers complained. They came to see by getting the sound of cutting trees in the night and saw such a scene. Trees were cut from 9 pm to 2 pm on 4th February.
The trees are kept in Kamarupukur union of Saidpur upazila.while contacted with Ezabul Haque the tree trader, he told that he cut the trees in presence of the Principal of the Institution. He also said, “I bought the tree with money, in presence of the college principal. If there are any rules in this regard, they can tell the best”.
IW Touhidul Islam, the authority responsible for the maintenance and supervision of railway land property, told that he did not find any such evidence at school after hearing that the trees had been cut. When asked if he has sold the trees in collusion with the principal, he straightly denied the matter.
While contacted with the Principal Nazrul Islam Kishore for the exact information about this, he did not receive the phone call and that’s why it is not possible to write his comment and information.
