UNB, Dhaka :
In separate incidents, muggers allegedly looted Tk 8.29 lakh injuring two people in the city early Saturday.
The injured were identified as Md Shanu Miah, 32, an RMG trader of Tongi in Gazipur, and Falan Miah, who claimed him to be a scrap trader. But police said he is an employee of a trading house.
The first incident took place under the New Market Footbridge around 1:30 am when two muggers on a motorbike swooped on Shanu and took away Tk 1.29 lakh after firing gunshots at his right thigh.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Talking to reporters at the DMCH, Shanu said he
has been living at Tongi in Gazipur. He was returning to Tongi after collecting money from his clients in the capital.
Meanwhile, Falan Miah claimed that 5-6 local miscreants swooped on him near ‘Haddi Factory’ in Kadamtali area around 2am. They hacked him and took way Tk 7 lakh from him. He was also taken to the DMCH.
However, officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station Abdus Salam said the incident took place due to previous enmity. “It was not an incident of mugging. Falan had an enmity with several local youths.”
He has been working at ‘Gadi’ owned by Lutfar Rahman Chairman, the OC added.
