Tk 2225 cr CCC budget approved

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has approved its annual budget of Tk 2225 crore and 67 lakh for the 2016-17 fiscal year, prioritising the development budget of Tk 1121 crore.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin placed the budget at KC Abdus Sattar Auditorium, Nagar Bhaban yesterday where the councilors and other concerned authorities approved the budget.
He also tabled the revised budget of tk 592 crore 66 lakh for the 2015-16 fiscal year at the third budget session of his tenure while Quazi Mohammad Safiul Alam, finance and standing committee president read out the details of the budget.
Emphasizing the revenue collection, city mayor said tk 1197 crore will come from the internal sources and Tk 1028 crore and 25 lakh from the donors, the finance ministry and other sources.
On the query of the journalists , how the limited employee could manage the huge amount of revenue from the tax payers while in the last year, only tk 329 crore was collected by the corporation, city mayor replied, we carried several assessment and we have confident this year that we could manage more than Tk 600-700 cr than that of the last year.
In the budget, a total of Tk 2223 crore and 29 lakh was expected to be allocated for several sectors and Tk 2 crore 37 lakh would be the additional money.
As per the budget, 278 crore and 36 lakh has been allocated for numeration, gratuity and labor while Tk 95 crore and 45 lakh has been allocated for repair and maintenance.
I is noted that, Tk 1121 crore has been allocated for the development budget where Tk 80 crore has been allocated for road and roadside repairing, Tk 50 crore for removing water logging and Tk 20 crore for the set up of modern city haban among others.
In the budget session, city mayor also said, two thousand employee would be recruited for the ‘door to door’ program to clean up the city. He also added that, 4958 billboards has been evicted from the city in the months long eviction drive.
To make the port city as green and clean we have taken master plan, saying bus-truck terminal and car parking facilities would be initiated soon to make the city jam free.
Asked whether the hawkers at roadside would be evicted or not, he said he has no plan to evict the hawkers as they are dwellers of the city and the number of people, relying on the income of them is over 12 lakh. But he added that the city corporation would give a time frame to the hawkers for carry out their business.
