Three killed in Kishoreganj clashes

Staff Reporter :At least three people including two children, were killed, and ten others injured in Mithamoin and Austagram Upazilas of Kishoreganj district in separate incidents on Tuesday morning and Monday night.Two children were killed and ten others injured as rival groups of villagers clashed at Barakanda village in Mithamoin upazila over a water body as well as establishing supremacy in the area on Tuesday morning, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithamoin Police Station Nasir Uddin said.The victims were identified as Md Mujakir, 9, a student of Class two and son of day labourer Md Ali and China, 7, a student of Class one and daughter of Musadek Ali of Barakanda village under Dhaki union in Mithamoin upazila of the district.At one stage, supporters of both the groups attacked each other with lethal weapons leaving the two minors dead on the spot and ten others injured. On information, Additional Police Super Liton Kumar Shaha visited the spot and a large number of police have been deployed there to control the situation.He said there had been a long-standing dispute between the two groups over establishing supremacy in the area.The injured were admitted to Mithamoin Health Complex while the bodies were sent to Kishoreganj Modern Hospital for autopsy.A case was filed with Mithamoin police station. Ten persons have been arrested in this connection.In another incident, a tea stall trader was beaten to death by some identified miscreants in Bharamapura village under Austagram upazila on Monday midnight. The victim was identified as Abdul Noor, 50. He was allegedly beaten mercilessly to death due to late supply of tea. The dead body was sent to Kishoreganj Modern Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with Austagram thana in this connection.
