Rape at MC College: Three accused on five-day remand: No lawyer willing to defend them

A Sylhet court has placed another accused, Robiul Islam, on remand in a case filed for gang-raping a woman on the hostel premises of Murari Chand (MC) College.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman granted five-day remand on Monday after police sought seven days for questioning.
Assistant Police Commissioner Amulla Kumar Chowdhury confirmed the matter to media.
Earlier, the same court granted remand for five days for key accused M Saifur Rahman and another suspect Arjun Laskar in the gang rape case.
When two accused of the case-Saifur Rahman, prime suspect, and Arjun Lasker-were produced before the court, no lawyer took charge to place arguments on behalf of the accused.
Assistant Police Commissioner Amulla Kumar Chowdhury confirmed the matter to media.
Besides, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday showed two more persons arrested in the Sylhet gang-rape case. The arrestees-Rajon Mia
and Md Ainuddin-were detained early today from Fenchuganj upazila on suspicion of their involvement in the gang-rape and were interrogated to this end.
The two were shown arrested since they were found to have been involved in the incident, according to the information gleaned from interrogation, said Obaine Rakhaine, additional superintendent of police and media officer of Rab-9.
Rajon and Ainuddin were detained based on information provided by Mahbubur Rahman Roni, one of the accused in the case who was arrested from Habiganj last night.
So far, the law enforcers have arrested six persons in the case, including four named accused.
The husband of the victim filed the case on Friday night with Shah Poran Police Station, mentioning names of six people, and 2-3 unnamed men.
Four of the named accused-Saifur, Arjun, Roni and Rabiul-have been arrested from different areas of Sunamganj and Habiganj so far.
Two other named accused-Mahfuzur Rahman Masum and Tarek Ahmed-are still on the run.
