Staff Reporter :Claiming that the blockaders have declared war against the general people, the Inspector General of Police AKM Shadiul Hoque has said they [blockaders] would not be spared anymore. “We will not spare the blockaders any more. They are killing people setting the vehicles on fire. Why they are killing people in such way?” the Police Chief said on Friday.He was addressing as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting on law andorder situation at Mithapukur Girls High School ground in Rangpur. It was arranged following the death of five passengers in a recent petrol bomb attack on a running bus at Mithapukur recently.Director General of Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] Benjir Ahmed, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, DIG of Police in Rangpur Range Humayn Kabir were present there as special guests while Deputy Commission of Rangpur Farid Ahmed was in the chair. Besides, Superintendent of Police of Rangpur Abdur Razzak conducted the meeting. Urging the local people of Mithapukur to be vocal against violence, the IGP said, “Raise your voice against violence. Form committee to resist terrorism comprising of good men. The police will stay beside you. We want to make Mithapukur a ‘peaceful place’ with the help of local people.””The members of law enforcing agencies will maintain the law and order by sacrificing their last drop of blood for the interest of state. You [people] are our strength. Form committees to save law and order in your own areas. It is not possible to resist the terrorist activities without the help of people,” the IGP noted. The police boss also said that BNP is not respectful to the country’s existing law. “The party [BNP] doesn’t respect the law. They wanted to hold meeting on January 5 showing their might. According to report of intelligence agencies, they took an attempt to hatch conspiracy from that meeting. So, the meeting was banned in accordance with the power allowed by the country’s constitution,” he said.DG of RAB Benjir Ahmed said about 24 people so far have been killed during the blockade enforced by BNP and its allies in the last few days.”A vested quarter has declared a war against the peace of the country like 2013. They don’t want development of country. These public enemies must be eliminated,” the RAB DG said. Urging the general people to keep united against the violence, the RAB boss also said, “It’s a war of evil what the blockaders have declared against the state and general people….They are terrorists.” He said, “There is no need of them who kill general people and innocent children. We will abolish them from the society in line with the country’s existing law.”Meanwhile, the authorities have deployed eight platoon of paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] to keep uninterrupted transport service on Dhaka-Rangpur highway. In this regard, the BGB has set up four road-side camps at Syedpur of Nilphamari, Mithapukur of Rangpur, Palashbari of Gaibandha and Gobindaganj. Besides, two extra platoons of BGB have been engaged there for mobile duty, officials said yesterday.BGB chief’s warning Earlier on Thursday, the Director General of BGB Major General Aziz Ahmed warned that the BGB personnel would not hesitate to use firearms against the arsonists [petrol bomb attackers] if such situation is created. The BGB Chief announced the decision to shoot at sight at a time when political violence is taking a toll on lives across the country while majority of them were petrol bomb victims.”BGB personnel have rights to save their lives if they are attacked. If someone hurl petrol bomb to people in front of me, I will not chase him with sticks. I will surely attack him to save other’s lives. There is no alternative to take stern action,” Aziz Ahmed said.
