The shameless selfie politics !

THE ongoing political trauma that jolted every conscious mind due to the heinous attack on Khadiza by a BCL thug in Sylhet after being refused by her has further been aggravated by the physic nuisance of three Mohila Awami League leaders’ capturing selfie putting the dying girl in the background. Capitalizing on people’s agony by the politicians is not new. But this ugly exposition has certainly deepened victim Khadiza’s pains what she is undergoing.

While the demand for trial of the BCL man is intensifying, the “selfie competition” by the ruling leaders, as reported in this newspaper, simply testifies that we all have lost all sensitivity and crimes here become a matter of no discussion. We have already forgotten Tonu of Comilla like many other victims and we will forget Khadiza within few days when media focus will be shifted on yet another horrible crime. Khadiza is not the first victim by BCL cadres who get the shield from laws and it will continue unabeted until the unruly student wing become disciplined and the axiom “all are equal before laws” is established.

As the selfie of two MPs – Sabina Akhter Tuhin and Apu Ukil, and another leader Kohale Quddus Mukti – with the dying girl spreads in social media and other outlets people’s anger has been outpouring. Many wonder whether these leaders have any humanistic sense and know how to treat a patient in death-bed. Many even wonder whether they made it a last minute fun with the dying girl as she remained motionless with ‘life supporting’ respiratory equipment. It makes clear the level of ethical degradation of our politicians who shamelessly prefer taking selfie instead of expressing their firmness to speedy trial of the attacker. Surely, they have a very poor mental status.

But questions have also been raised at the same time how and why the hospital management allowed AL leaders inside the ICU when the entry of visitors is highly restricted there. The hospital management said they tried to prevent them from entering the ICU, but they did not pay heed to them and finally entered there. It is now a question whether they went to visit Khadiza at the hospital and wish her recovery or it was their narrow purpose to take a selfie to politically demonstrate their service to humanity.

The BCL attacker should be subjected to speedy trial. And these two law-makers should resign from their position as people without sensitivity towards people’s torment could not be people’s representative and unable to bring any good for the people whether critically ill like Khadiza or in good health.
