A teenage housewife has allegedly been beaten to death at Durbaganda village in Manirampur upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mithila, 16, a Class-X student of a local school and daughter of Abdur Rashid of Konakhola village in the upazila.
Mithila was married off to Tapu Raihan, son of Kamal Hossain of the area, 11 months back. Tapu is a third year student of Manirampur Model Polytechnic Institute.
Victim’s father claimed that in-laws beat her daughter to death and poured poison into her mouth to make it appear that she committed suicide.
Meanwhile, Tapu said Mithila collapsed on the ground on Tuesday noon following a headache and she was taken to Keshabpur hospital where doctors declared her dead around 10pm.
Roksana Khatun, sub-inspector of Manirampur Police Station, said victim’s father lodged a written complaint on Wednesday noon.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy.
The mystery behind the death will be cleared after having the autopsy report, said Mokarram, officer-in-charge of the police station.
