World Cup winning Under-19 star Tanzid Hasan played a brilliant 59-run knock as Shinepukur Cricket Club stunned domestic powerhouse Mohammedan Sporting Club by five wickets in their first match of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Monday.
Electing to bat first, Mohammedan put up a decent 257-8 but Tanzid who gave the side a flying start by hitting a 77 ball-59, steered the side to the victory with three balls to spare.
Tanzid hit three fours and two sixes in his knock and added 53 runs to the opening stand with Sabbir Hossain who made 25.
Capitalizing on Tanzid’s start, Robiul Islam made 54 while Captain Towhid Ridoy scored 50 to make the task easier. Later, wicket-keeper batsman Mahidul Islam Ankan played a 47 ball-49 runs knock to help the side to reach the winning target.
Abu Jayed Rahi, Abdur Razzak, Abu Haider Rony and Mahmudul Hasan picked up one wicket apiece for Mohammedan.
Earlier, most of the batsman of Mohammedan’s top order got the start but simply couldn’t carry on. Mahmudul Hasan was the highest scorer for the side with 58. Third batsman Irfan Shukkur contributed 46 while opener Abdul Mazid made 42.
