A wonderful 95 from dashing opener Tamim Iqbal helped Bangladesh to score a modest total of 182 against Australia in their Group-A match of the ICC Champions Trophy at Kennington Oval in London, England on Monday. Bangladesh were all out playing 44.3 overs.
Tamim Iqbal’s 114-ball innings was studded with six fours and three sixes. Tamim alone fought back against the controlled bowling attack of Australian bowlers. It was Tamim’s 37th ODI half century.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Soumya Sarkar (3) was caught by Mathew Wade off Josh Hazlewood when Bangladesh’s score was 22.
After dismissal of Soumya, Imrul Kayes arrived at the crease but he (6) could stay at the pitch for a short period as he was caught at the cover by Aaron Finch off Pat Cummins when the team’s total was 37 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim failed to shine with the willow as he (9) was trapped leg before wicket by Moises Henriques when Bangladesh’s score was 53 for the loss of three wickets.
Then opener Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan contributed together 69 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was trapped leg before wicket by Travis Head when the Tigers’ total was 122 for the loss of four wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan made 29 from 48 balls hitting two fours.
After departure of Shakib Al Hasan, fourth-down Sabbir Rahman failed to make a remarkable score as he (8) was caught at the extra cover by Steven Smith off Adam Zampa when Bangladesh’s score was 141 for the loss of five wickets.
Fifth-down Mahmudullah Riyad could not make a good score as he (8) was bowled out by Adam Zampa when the team’s total was 153 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Tamim Iqbal and Mahedi Hasan Miraz added together 28 for the seventh wicket partnership before Tamim Iqbal was caught at the long-leg by Josh Hazlewood off Mitchell Starc when Bangladesh’s score was 181 for the loss of seven wickets.
After departure of Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (0) was cleanly bowled out by Mitchell Starc when Bangladesh’s total was 181 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then Starc dismissed Rubel Hossain for a duck when Bangladesh’s score was 181 for the loss of nine wickets.
Starc again struck again as Mehedi Hasan Miraz (14) was bowled out by Starc and Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Mitchell Starc captured four wickets at the cost of 29 runs, while Adam Zampa bagged two wickets instead of 13 runs.
Hazlewood, Cummins, Travis Head and Henriques took one wicket apiece.
