The residents of city’s Baridhara are facing untold sufferings for haphazard digging works, which have been going on for the last three weeks for repairing Dutabash Road No 1.

Piling of dug-up mud, bricks and brick-chips and sand occupied both sides of the road, narrowing down the thoroughfares and obstructing traffic movement.

A lack of space for pedestrians as well vehicles is aggravating the situation, as the repair work is going on in a sluggish pace. The residents of the area are also failing to go out with their cars.

But no initiative has yet been taken to remove the mud, bricks, brick-chips and sand from there.

The slabs, which were uncovered for repairing the road, still remain uncared for.

As the uncovered drains have not yet been filled up with slabs, the residents of the area are also failing to go or come with their cars.

“Moving towards anywhere from the residence has become a real ordeal for us for the last 28 days. We can’t move with our cars. No official from Dhaka North City Corporation came to the spot to ease our sufferings,” a resident of Baridhara area told The New Nation on Saturday.

He said as the DNCC has not taken any step, they have made a temporary arrangement with wood-made slabs and covered the drain to go to their respective residences.

Another resident expressing grave resentment said, “When we request the workers to remove the mud and rubbish from the road, they demand money.”

“If you give us money, we will remove the mud. Otherwise you will have to wait for more days,” a worker was quoted as saying.

He said the DNCC mayor always talks tall rather than doing something well for the people.

“We are struggling every day to go out from our residence. We have to cross huge piles of mud, sand and rubbish. We are failing to go outside with our cars. It has now become more difficult as the mud and sand-piles have become slippery due to rains in last the few days,” the resident said.

When contacted, Mayor of DNCC Annisul Huq yesterday said they need more three to four days to complete the work.

“Our men are working round the clock there to complete the road repair If you want to get something good, you will have to wait. We will take not more than four days to repair the road,” he said.
