Business Desk :
The jute millers and spinners on Tuesday urged the government to take strict measures against the illegal raw jute hoarders to contain the high price of the natural fibre.
They also demanded the implementation of the Jute Act- 2017 and the fixation of the raw jute prices.
Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA), Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association (BJSA), Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA) and Bangladesh Jute Goods Exporter’s Association (BJGEA) jointly made the demand at a view exchange meeting with media at BJMA building this noon.
BJMA Chairman Md Abul Hossain said, “Some dishonest profiteers have made huge profits by illegally hoarding raw materials and selling them at high prices by creating artificial crises. Though the jute prices appear to be high, real farmers are not receiving a fair price.”
The government should take action against the non-license-holder hoarders immediately,” he added.
Meanwhile, the textile and jute ministry in a statement said the dealers or warehouse owners will not be allowed to store more than 1,000 maunds of raw jute in a month.
