A Taiwanese couple was injured in an attack by their employees during a robbery at their Uttara residence here early Friday. Police arrested one of the attackers, Jahangir, in connection with the incident. Police said Chee Mina Schee, 68, and his wife Lily Howai, 50, have been living in Bangladesh for the last 10-12 years. They run a PVC factory in Gazipur. Jahangir, an employee of the factory, along with its two former contractual staff — Raju and Saju — stormed into the residence of the couple after 12am Friday in a bid to commit a robbery. Jahangir was wearing a mask while the two others did not cover their faces thinking that the factory owners would not recognise them as they left the factory four years ago, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (Uttara division) of DMP Golam Mostafa Rasel. However, the Taiwanese couple did recognise Raju and Saju. Sensing danger, the attackers hit Chee Mina Schee and his wife Lily Howai with wooden sticks, said ADC said, adding that they later made away with Tk 6 lakh from the house. The injured couple was taken to Apollo Hospitals. Following the statement of Lily Howai, police arrested Jahangir from Joydevpur area in Gazipur on Friday. – Dhaka, Nov 6 (UNB)
