Staff Reporter :Some miscreants attacked a Taiwanese couple in the city’s Uttara residence on Thursday midnight injuring them and looting Tk 6 lakh from their possession amid the tight security across the country. The attackers are reportedly workers of the Taiwanese couple who are running a plywood factory at Gazipur and running it over the past 12 years. The injured Taiwanese couple were identified as Wang Ming Chee, 54, and his wife Lily Hawa, 50, Muntasirul Islam, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told journalists. They were residing at a residence at Sector Number 4 in Uttara area.The police official said that the couple on Thursday collected Tk 6 lakh from a bank at Uttara and kept the money at their residence.Police arrested one of the miscreants named Jahangir, an employee of the factory, in this connection. Jahangir along with Raju and Saju stormed into the residence of the couple at 11.45pm on Thursday in a bid to commit the robbery. “The three employees of the plywood factory opened the door lock with a duplicate key and started beating the couple indiscriminately. Later, the gang took away Tk 6 lakh from the house,” the police official said Police suspect the incident took place over a business feud.He said Wang Ming Chee, who received head injury is now undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital while his wife Lily Hawa was given fast aid at a private hospital “As the employees had information the couple on Thursday withdrew Tk 6 lakh from a bank at Uttara and kept the money at their residence, they committed the robbery, Muntasirul Islam said, adding police have started raiding at different suspected hideouts to nab the two others.Meanwhile, the law enforcing agencies claimed that the incident is totally different from the Italian national Cesare Tavella, Japanese citizen Hoshi Koni and Saudi diplomat Khalaf al-Ali. A case was filed with the Uttara East Police Station on Friday night in this connection. The Taiwanese couple have been living in Bangladesh for the last 12 years. They run a plywood factory in Gazipur.Earlier, Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella, 50, was shot dead in capital Dhaka on September 28 while Japanese national Japanese citizen Hoshi Koniowas shot dead in Rangpur on October 3. Saudi Arabian diplomat Khalaf al-Ali was shot in the chest and killed in capital on March 6, 2012 while taking a late-night walk near his home.
