Bangladesh lost to Scotland by six runs in their first Group-B match of the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers at the Amerat Stadium in Oman on Sunday.
Sent into bat first, Scotland piled up a fighting total of 140 for the loss of nine wickets and then restricted Bangladesh to 134 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.
Bangladesh had a painful start as opener Soumya Sarkar (5) was caught at the deep midwicket by Munsey off Josh Davey when Bangladesh’s score was just eight.
Then opener Liton Das (5) was caught at the mid-off by Munsey from a delivery of Brad Wheal when Bangladesh’s total was 18 for the loss of two wickets.
One-down Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 47 runs for the third wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was caught at the deep midwicket by MacLeod off Greaves when Bangladesh’s score was 65 for the loss of three wickets.
Shakib made 20 from 28 balls with one fours.
After Shakib’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled out by Greaves when Bangladesh’s total was 74 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a splendid 38. His 36-ball innings had two sixes and a four.
Then Mahmudullah Riyad and Afif Hossain added together 32 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Afif was caught at the deep midwicket by Davey off Watt when Bangladesh’s score was 106 for the loss of five wickets. Afif scored 18 from 12 balls with two fours.
After Afif’s dismissal, Nurul Hasan (2) was caught by Macleod off Wheal when Bangladesh’s total was 110 for the loss of six wickets.
Mahmudullah was caught by MacLeod off wheal when Bangladesh’s total was 116 for the loss of seven wickets,
Mahmudullah made 23 from 22 balls including one four and one six.
Mahedi Hasan remained unbeaten with 13, while Saifuddin remained unbeaten with five runs.
Brad Wheal was the most successful bowler for Scotland with three wickets, while Greaves got two wickets.
Scotland had a disastrous start as opener Kyle Coetzer (0) was bowled out by Mohammad Saifuddin when Scotland’s score was just five.
After Coetzer’s dismissal, opener George Munsey and one-down Mathew Cross mended the innings adding together 40 runs for the second wicket partnership before Mathew Cross (11) was trapped leg before wicket by Mahedi Hasan when Scotland’s total was 45 for the loss of two wickets.
After Mathew’s departure, George Munsey was bowled out by Mahedi Hasan when Scotland’s score was 46 for the loss of three wickets.
Munsey made 29 from 23 balls featuring two sixes and two fours.
After Munsey’s removal, Richie Berrington (2) was caught at the long-on by Afif Hossain off Shakib Al Hasan when Scotland’s total was 52 for the loss of four wickets.
Fourth-down Michael Leask (0) was caught at the long-off by Liton Das off Shakib Al Hasan when Scotland’s score was 52 for the loss of five wickets.
Third-down Calum Macleod (5) was bowled out by Mahedi Hasan when Scotland’s total 53 for the loss of six wickets.
Fifth-down Chris Greaves and sixth-down Mark Watt made a notable partnership as they put on together 51 runs in the seventh wicket stand before Watt (22) was caught at the long-off by Soumya Sarkar off Taskin Ahmed when Scotland’s score was 104 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Watt’s dismissal, Chris Greaves was caught at the deep backward square leg by Shakib Al Hasan off Mustafizur Rahman when Scotland’s total was 131 for the loss of eight wickets.
Greaves hit 45 from 28 deliveries including four fours and two sixes.
Then Josh Davey (8) was bowled out by Mustafizur Rahman when Scotland’s score was 131 for the loss of nine wickets.
Mahedi Hasan grabbed three wickets at the cost of 19 runs, while Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets each instead of 17 and 32 runs respectively.
Taskin Ahmed and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket each conceding 28 and 30 runs respectively.
