Sylhet district administration will monitor market prices during Ramzan in Sylhet city and district. It will start functioning very soon. A control room would be set up at the DC office to monitor prices of commodities on a regular basis and receive complaints from the consumers. The committee would take decision to conduct mobile court drives to take action against the dishonest businessmen who would try to hike price of essentials.
The market monitoring committee of Sylhet was formed at a views-exchange meeting held at the conference room of DC office on Monday with DC Md Shohidul Islam in the chair. Meanwhile, Sylhet office of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will distribute essential goods in the city during Ramzan at the subsidized rates.
DC Islam has warned businessmen of stern action in case of any allegation with evidence of hoarding any kind of consumer items to enhance their prices for making fabulous profit.
He also called upon the leaders of the business community, in particular the retailers, to sell goods of daily necessities within the budget of the average consumer so that Sylhet residents are not forced to delve deep into their pockets during in the holy month of Ramzan. He also sought help from people of all walks of life to keep the prices of daily commodities within the reach of the common people during the holy month.
The market monitoring committee convener also asked to fix the wholesale and the retail prices of some major essentials and display the prices in markets, major shops and wholesale markets during the said time. District level government and non-government officials, representatives of SCC, SCCI, whole sale markets, Banik Samity, Imam parishad, local journalists were present in the meeting.
