A court of Dhaka yesterday sent Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahmudul Hasan, nephew of suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman, to jail rejecting his bail petition in a case filed for allegedly acquiring wealth through illegal means.
Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday.
Earlier, SI Mahmudul Hasan appealed to the court seeking bail through his lawyer when the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) opposed his bail plea.Hearing both sides, the court passed orders to send SI Mahmudul Hasan to the jail.
Earlier, on July 1, Mahmudul Hasan sought anticipatory bail with suspended DIG Mizan to the High Court, while the apex court rejected his bail plea and directed him to surrender to the lower court within 72 hours. Following the order, he surrendered to the court on Thursday.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that SI Mahmudul Hasan was in service with Kotwali Police Station of the capital.
