The supporters of two councillor candidates were involved in a sequel clash at a rally of Awami League (AL) mayor candidate in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls Atiqul Islam in the capital’s Gulshan area on Wednesday afternoon.
The clash took place at 12 pm during Atiqul’s campaign rally when he was delivering speech on the stage at Shaheed Fazle Rabbi Park in city’s around 12pm. His family members were also present in the rally.
The supporters of DNCC’s Ward- 20 AL nominated councillor candidate Md Nasir Md Nasir and rebel candidate Md Jahidur Rahman locked into clash, threw chairs and vandalised. Md Jahidur Rahman Dulal, a local Awami League leader and councillor candidate is going against the party decision, later joined the rally along with his supporters.
Some also found beating their rivals with sticks that marred the campaign.
Later, Atiqul’s supporters created a human shield to save him and left the park.
