Eleven members of two Sundarbans based robber gangs-Majnu Bahini and Ilyas Bahini-surrendered to Home Minister Assaduzzaman Khan Kamal in an official ceremony at noon organised near the BFDC jetty of Mongla Port in Khulna district on Thursday last.
They also handed over 25 firearms and about 1,000 bullets in presence of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Benazir Ahmed, Bagherhat Depury Commissioner M Jahangir Alam, and other high-ups of RAB-8, RAB-6, Khulna and Bagherhat police.
Majnu Gazi, kingpin of Majnu Bahini, his accomplices Babul Hasan, Jahangir Hossain Rahmat, Idris Ali, Ismail Hossain, Majnu Sheikh, Robiul Islam alias Imdadul, Abul Kalam Azad, Enamul Hossain, and Ilyas Bahini’s chief Ilyas Hossain and collaborator Nasir Hossain laid arms to the home minister.
The minister congratulated the robbers and assured them of normal life. At the same time, he asked other robbers to follow the July 14 instance to return to the social life.
“The government is determined to keep the Sundarban area safe for the country, as it is very important economic zone,” the minister said, and warned of stern actions against those would not surrender
Earlier, another gang of Sundarbans based robbers-Master Bahini surrendered to RAB-8 in Charputia area of Mongla on May 31.
