The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday again deferred the submission of the investigation report in the case filed over the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi. Magistrate Mahmuda Akter fixed March 13, the next date for submission of the report.
With this, the submission deadline has been changed 52 times.
As the probe report was not submitted to the court this time also, the court fixed the new date.
Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found dead in their apartment in the city’s West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012.
In view of the murder, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana launched an investigation. Later, the case was transferred to the Detective Branch of Police.
But on April 18, 2012, the High Court in an order moved the case to RAB for investigation.
At least eight persons including the couple’s ‘family friend’ Tanveer Rahman had been arrested in connection with the killing. Later, Tanveer was released on bail, though others are still in the jail.
