Students of different schools and colleges took to the streets of Sylhet on Thursday demanding punishment of those responsible for Sunday’s road accident that killed their two fellows in the city and resignation of the Shipping Minister for his comments on the accident.
Although the government shut down all the educational institutions across the country for Thursday students wearing uniform and holding bag took to the streets across Dhaka in the morning.
Witnesses said a group of students of Sevarel educational institiution gathered in Sylhet Centrel Shohidminar area in the city at 2 pm and continued their demonstrations.
Besides, students of also joined the protest programme of college students and expressed solidarity.
Earlier, the government on Tuesday asked the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to take legal actions as per law against the underage drivers and drivers without licences in mass transports,
On Sunday, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a ‘Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan’ bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road.
Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj reports: Students of several schoosl and colleges took on the streets demanding ‘Safe Road”. They also brought out procession sand formed human chain at various point in the town on Saturday.
Students were seen checking the licenses of drivers in Kalibari, Akhrabazar, Station Road and Kachari Bazar of Kishoreganj town.
They checking the driverving licenses and fitness certificates of Deputy Commissioner jeep. They are controlling traffic systems.
Kishoreganj District Administration arranged an exchange views meeting with education institutes chief and teachers held at Collectorate Conference Room on Friday while Acting Deputy Commissioner Md. Zahirul Isam in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Police Super Md. Mashrokur Rahman Khaled BPM, ADC (General) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil, District Awami League President Advocate Kamurl Ahsan Shajahan, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, G.D Govt. College Principal, Government Women’s College Principal, S.V Govt. Girls’ High School Headmaster Shahanawaj Kabir, P.P Advocate Shah Azizul Haque and Monowar Hossain Rony.
Police Super Khaled BPM hoped that the agitating students will leave the streets and return home, as all of their demands have already been accepted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. All ready the implementation process of their demands has been started.
Saidpur( Nilphamari )Correspondent adds: The movement of students for the demand of safe road has spread to Saidpur of Nilphamari. On Thursday hundreds of school, college and university students came down on the road at 11 o’clock in the afternoon. There was a procession rally. In front of Saidpur Press Club a human chain formed.
A brief meeting was held during this time. Among others, Abu Jabed, a student of Bangladesh Army Science and Technology University, Saidpur, Sadik Al-Barik, student of Government Technical College, Mrinal Kanti Roy, Abdullahel Galiib, Shakil Ahmed of Cantt Public School and College, Ahmed Musa, Mohammad Riyadh, Osama Arif of Lions School and College spoke at the brief discussion.
Concerned students raised the demand for a safe road, including 9-point demand. The speakers demanded to stop all the anarchy on the streets, otherwise they would not return home. They wished Prime Minister’s intervention. Earlier, this protest demonstration carried out the main road of the city.
On the other hand, students of Bangladesh Army Science and Technology University located in Saidpur Cantonment area warned the drivers by giving roses in the hands. Advice them to drive on the highway carefully. This scene was seen on Thursday (August 2) in the University area.
Students standing in the university campus of Saidpur-Parbatipur Road demand safe roads and want justuice for their teammates although educational institutions were closed for security purposes. But for their teammates’ sympathy, they stand on the road. They want a safe road. “If you are afraid, then you ended, if you stand up against , then you are Bangladesh”, stop anarchy on the road and with various slogan and placards stuidents checked the car papers by blocking the vehicles. They alerted the drivers by giving them roses.
