BAU Correspondent :
The second year students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Sunday confined their VC to his residence on Sunday demanding cancellation of the decision to introduce semester fee as well as increasing other fees.
Earlier the students also boycotted their classes and scheduled examinations, blocked the road in front of Vice-Chancellor’s residence and kept the gate under lock and key. They also brought out a protest march on the campus. The protesting students said, “Administration introduced semester fee and increased some other regular fees from present session whereas the students of previous session do not pay any semester fee.”
“We will continue our protest programme until our demands are met,” they declared.
BAU VC Prof Dr Rafiqul Haque, however, mentioned that “There is no way to reduce the fees. A known group is trying to destabilise the proper educational environment on the campus.”
For the students of 2012-13 academic session the administration has been increased form fill-up fee to Tk. 1780 from 300-400 including newly introduced Tk.1200 as semester fee. In 2013, amid protest authority decided immediately to reduce the fees only for one semester and assured the students about the permanent exclusion through academic council and syndicate. But the academic council in their last meeting held at 21st May decided not to reduce the imposed fees.
