Rabiul Alam, JnU :
Students of Jagannath University (JnU) on Tuesday staged demonstrations on the campus demanding immediate starting the process of seat allotment in only female Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of the university.
The students brought out a procession on the campus around 12:30pm which paraded the important thoroughfares inside and outside of the university, (blocking Gulistan -Sadarghat road causing traffic jam). Later, they formed a human chain in front of Shanto Chottor of the university.
Students alleged that the university vice-chancellor had made repeated promises on seat allotment for the female dormitory but the university authorities did not take any step to start seat allotment process, rather every time the VC used to promise to demolish students’ movement.
Students at the human chain urged the authorities concerned to meet their demand of settingup all tasks and starting seat allotment process by December 31; otherwise they would go for besieging education ministry.
Tithi Sarker one of the agitating students said “We have to stay in mess as the authorities still not started the seat allotment process for female students. In the name of promise authorities play games of twilight, their irresponsible attitude forced us to protest as they are now taking a long time togive seat allotment. Althoughauthorities had promised for last time to complete construction work by December 31, 2019 but I don’t think they could do so as they are indifferent to it and some of the construction work yet to be completed”
Meanwhile, On October 22, 2013, the foundation stone of Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall was laid. Later in December 2014, Wahid Mia, a contracting company took responsibility for constructing a 16-storied building on the foundation for the 20-storied building under a three-year project, even the university authorities had promised to start seat allotment process of the hall by June 2018 but after the opening of the construction work four times, the construction work is yet to be completed.
