Chairman of Chattogram Zilla Parishad and General Secretary of Awami League, Chattogram North District Unit MA Salam called upon the concerned authorities of Raozan and Hathazari upazila administration to undertake stern measures against the pollution of only natural fish breeding centre of the country Halda River to save this aquamarine resources from ruination.
He expressed this view in a press statement sent to various mass media yesterday.
The statement was told that aquamarine resources in the Halda River and the adjoining areas of Hathazari and Raozn Upazila are the worst sufferers of pollution of Halda river.
The water of Halda river becoming polluted day by day due to industrial and household effluents causedl severe threat to fish habitat . Moreover the agri lands in these areas are losing its fertility due to industrial wastages .
Mentionable that due to recent devastating flash floods in these areas the river bank of Halda eroded and submerged the areas of Shikarpur, Burirchar, Madarsha Fatehpur, Mekhol and Garduara village of Hathazari upazila and and its adjoining areas of Raozan upazila caused severe miseries of the dwellers with poison mixed water. Af the same time, the river water of Halda severely polluted and fishes of all types including mother fishes of carb species are dieing every day, the statement was told .
Very recently a mother carb fish approximate weight of 16 kgs died due to polluted water in Halda. Sources said MA Salam urges the concerned authorizes to undertake immediate measures to save the Halda river from pollution otherwise the only natural fish breeding zone across the country will be ruined very shortly.
