Power supply suspended for 22 hours: Storm damages standing crops houses,20 injured in Jhenaidah

The storm swept over Jhenaidah on Wednesday night damaged huge standing crops, trees, , damaged hundreds of houses and thousands of birds were killed. Atleast 20 persons were injured .
The figure of damage could not be estimated primarily, said the officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension in Jhenaidah. Power supply in Jhenaidah was suspended for 22 hours as pillars in different areas were broken down by the storm.
All six upazilas, specially, Sailkupa was badly affected by the storm continued for about two hours. The mostly affected villages are : Tribeni, Fulahari, Seikhpara, Dudsar, Umedpur, Manaharpur and Mirjapur.
Abdur Rahman, a resident of Tribeni said, the storm badly damaged the standing crops like onion, garlic, wheat and Boro plants. Huge number of trees uprooted during the storm.
Abul Hossain of Bhatai said, the storm fell down huge large size trees that blocked the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway for four hours. At least 300 tin shed houses were damaged by the storm where about 20 persons were injured, he said.
The betel leaf orchards were damaged badly in Sailkupa and Harinakundu upazila of the district. Powers supply in the district was disrupted for 22 hours which was resumed in the evening of Thursday, said the officials of the West Zone Power Distribution Company WZPDC) and the Rural Electrification Board (REB) in Jhenaidah.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah Shah Akram Hossain when contacted said, the staff of the DAE have been conducting survey of the damage by storm to assess the actual figure of the damage.
