Dhaka stocks surged Tuesday for the second consecutive day on consistent buying of large-cap shares while pharmaceuticals and energy shares contributed around 33.0 percent to the day’s turnover.
Telecommunication, cement and life insurance advanced most with 4.6 percent, 4.1 percent and 3.0 percent in market cap respectively. Resultantly, DSEX, the benchmark price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 64.2 points or 1.31 percent to cross the 4900-point mark again after bouncing back to the green zone on Monday from the negative territory.
The broader index eventually closed at 4932.89, raising the expectation that it would go beyond the 5000-point mark, a level often considered as more comfortable for share trading.
The blue-chip DS30 rose significantly by 38.19 points or 2.12 percent to 1837.44 when the Shariah DSES also had gone well with 22.09 points or 1.95 percent gains to finish the day at 1154.01.
