Stocks finish year upward with higher transactions

Stocks finished the last day of the year on Thursday with rising trend of price indices due to higher transactions of some large-cap securities, including financial institutions, insurance, cement and travel and leisure sectors.
DSEX, the major price index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed the day with 36.46 points up at 5,385.64. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 13.10 points up at 1,880.78 and with 6.06 points up at 1,232.82 respectively.
The trade value at the DSE increased to Taka 538.34 crore from the Wednesday’s Taka 388.24 crore and the trade volume also rose to 13.78 crore shares from the Wednesday’s 11.28 crore shares.
At the DSE, price of 182 securities out of the day’s 344 traded issues closed higher against 108 losing issues. The major gaining issues were Premier Cement, Bay Leasing, National Life Insurance, Peninsula and AIBL1STMF. The major losing issues were Monno Stafflers, ANLIMAYARN, AL Haj Textile, Ambee Pharma and ICBAMCL2ND.
Brac Bank topped the turnover leaders followed by UPGDCL, BEXIMCO, National Life Insurance and PTL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 90.25 points up at 16,449.51.
At the CSE, 263 issues were traded. Of those, 132 closed higher and 93 closed lower while 1.07 crore shares worth Taka 41.47 crore changed hands.
