Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said the government has taken various initiatives for controlling the diarrhoeal disease, the second leading cause of death of children under five years age.
The minister said this on Tuesday while replying to query from treasury bench lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah (Dhaka-11) in the house.
Under the initiative, he said the government has formed a multi-sectoral committee with additional director general (non-communicable disease) as its head.
The committee will take active initiative to eliminate the diarrhoeal disease from the country, said the minister.
The committee activities includes providing proper treatment to the diarrhoeal patients, carrying out different advocacy meeting to raise awareness campaign on taking safe water, arrangement of hygienic sanitation, taking safe food and avoid rotten and open food and ensure personal neat and cleanness.
In addition to this, the committee will provide water purified tablets for safe water, provide vaccines among high risk group, encourage people to feed breast milk to their children up to six months and to strengthen health education programme at all stage, he added.
